I'm always happy to get links to retro sites. But even I have standards, though I try to keep them to a minimum. If your site doesn't meet these guidelines, it probably won't get listed. But don't worry, it's nothing you can't handle.
- This is not what is often referred to as a "family friendly" site. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against families. But this is a site created by an adult for the use of adults, and some areas contain "adult" language and situations, violence, nudity, and depictions of sexual activity. Again, don't get me wrong, that isn't what this site is about. But people swore, fought, got naked and had sex back in the old days as well as today, and that's reflected on the site. So by submitting your site, you state that you understand that you may be sharing space with links to "adult" content, and that you have no objection to being linked from a site (specifically, this one) that has such content.
- This might seem obvious, but your site must devote at least half of its space to the events, people, or memorabilia of twenty-five years ago or more. That's what this site is about, after all. So, while I have nothing in particular against online gambling sites, they just don't fit here and I won't list them.
- If your site has adult content, it should be clearly stated. In fact, it should be one of the first things people see when they enter your site. Basically, I have nothing against nudity or adult situations. But some people do, and I see no reason why they should have to view it if they don't want to. Don't try to sneak anything by me, because I won't disqualify your site for adult content. Just give your visitors a chance to decide if your site is for them, is all I ask.
b - By the way, you don't have to get all legalese about it, with disclaimers and making people click buttons that say they have read and understood and all that nonsense. Just tell them what's on the site that some people might find objectionable, and let them decide. (3b is just advice, not a rule. It's my opinion that while some people don't give fair warning, some people get a little carried away with it.)
- If your site has a pile of popups, you'd better have some kickin' content. I'm a little more tolerant of sites where the popups aren't under your control, like Geocities and that other one, but I still expect to see something that's worth dealing with another couple ads when I click a link.
- You get a text link only, placed where I think it fits, and my decision is final. If you want to stick banners on my site, that'll cost you some money. And if you want to decide where on my site your banner rests, it'll cost you a little more. Life's like that.
- To get listed, send me an email and put "Links Page" in the title somewhere. That way I won't accidentally delete it as spam. You can include a blurb about your site if you like, but bear in mind that this is not a classified ads section. I'm going to visit your site myself and I reserve the right to edit or even ignore anything you write. Don't worry, I'm not going to make value judgments about your site. I don't care about your prices, or how pretty your site is, or how easy it is to navigate. I just care that it fits in with the Retrojunkie's theme. But I make the decision about the description for the link, and my decision is final.
- Be patient. As I've already stated, I'm going to visit your site myself, and I'm going to do that after I've finished doing things that keep the rent paid. Otherwise, my landlord gets all whiny, and I hate that. So it may take a while to get your link up. But it'll get up, never fear.
I think that's it, at least for the moment. Hopefully I'm not being too heavy-handed about it. Then again, if you don't qualify, it's not like you're missing out on a great honor or anything. :) If you think you'd like to get listed, send me a message and put the phrase "Links Page" somewhere in the title.
